Trump probation interview set for Monday after hush money conviction

(NBC News) Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to sit for a virtual interview on Monday with a New York City probation officer from his home at Mar-a-Lago with his attorney Todd Blanche at his side after he was found guilty on all counts in the hush money trial against him last month, three sources familiar with the matter told NBC News. The pre-sentencing probation interview will be done over a special virtual network with added security measures, and the interviewer will be a female, according to two sources with knowledge of the situation. The call is not expected to be held over Zoom, those sources added.

US Democrats deploying funds to boost down-ballot candidates in non-battleground states

(Reuters) The national Democratic Party is deploying nearly $2 million to boost down-ballot candidates in 11 states where the presidential election is not expected to be competitive, targeting specific races from the U.S. Senate to state legislative contests in November's elections. The Democratic National Committee said the investments will go to state parties in nearly a dozen traditionally Democratic and Republican states such as Washington and Texas, where down-ballot candidates are unlikely to benefit from campaign visits or advertising by Democratic President Joe Biden and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

Conservative Admits Trump's Policies 'Would Result in Price Spikes' for Most Americans

(Alternet) Michael Strain — who is the director of economic policy studies at the conservative American Enterprise Institute — said all signs point to higher prices if the policies Trump is running on become reality. "I think we can say with a lot of confidence that President Trump’s trade policies and immigration policies would result in price spikes," Strain said. Strain pointed to the former president's promises to deport millions of immigrants and impose massive new double-digit tariffs on imported goods as reason to believe higher prices are likely if Trump is president again.

Biden Administration has discussed potentially negotiating unilateral deal with Hamas to free U.S. hostages

(NBC News) Biden administration officials have discussed potentially negotiating a unilateral deal with Hamas to secure the release of five Americans being held hostage in Gaza if current cease-fire talks involving Israel fail, according to two current senior U.S. officials and two former senior U.S. officials. Such negotiations would not include Israel and would be conducted through Qatari interlocutors, as current talks have been, said the officials, all of whom have been briefed on the discussions. White House officials declined to comment.

Kamala Harris: 'Cheaters don't like getting caught'

(The Guardian) “Simply put, Donald Trump thinks he is above the law,” the vice-president told an audience at a dinner hosted by the Michigan state Democratic party. “This should be disqualifying for anyone who wants to be president of the United States ... He suggests the case could be a ‘breaking point’ for his supporters, hinting at violence. He spreads lies that our administration is controlling this case when everyone knows it was a state prosecution. And he says that he will use a second term for revenge,” Harris said. “You know why he complains? Because the reality is cheaters don’t like getting caught.”

Clyburn on Trump's attempt to take credit for insulin pricing: 'How can you be so bold with your lies?'

(The Hill) Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) took aim at former President Trump for trying to take credit for lower prices of insulin over the weekend. “Donald Trump is now saying he, not Joe Biden, reduced the cost of insulin. How can you be so bold with your lies?” Clyburn said. President Biden has touted the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) as one of his core achievements for lowering drug prices, including the $35 cap on insulin for those with Medicare.

The latest big-time Republican to bail on Trump

(NJ.com) Paul Ryan has seen enough. The former speaker of the House and vice presidential nominee has had a sometimes contentious relationship with Donald Trump, but he’s made up his mind on who he’ll support in November. Not Trump. “Character is too important for me,” Ryan told Yahoo Finance earlier this week. “[The presidency] is a job that requires the kind of character [Trump] doesn’t have.”
